Islamabad: China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority Chairman Lieutenant-General (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa recently revealed that the working plan for the development of two routes from Khunjrab-to-Gwadar has been completed.
Bajwa said that the remaining routes of CPEC would be included in the plan within the coming few months. He said that the second phase of the CPEC project was crucial for the country’s progress and that development work in this regard would be initiated soon.
The authority chairman further informed that the second phase would focus primarily on trade, industries, science and technology, and agriculture sectors. He said that their topmost priority was to make the special economic zones in the four provinces operational. He also said that the Pak-China Cooperation Committee was expected to conduct a conference soon for this purpose.
Bajwa further clarified that CPEC was not a political project and that any kind of political hindrance would not stop its progress. He said that CPEC was in the best interest of the country and that no external pressure or compromises would be made in that regard.
