Karachi: Provincial Minister for Information Syed Nasir Shah revealed that the city was home to up to 422 ‘dangerous’ building structures – 55 of which were heritage constructions.
While presiding over a meeting, the minister said that the operation against illegal constructions on buildings would continue. He added that efforts for setting up the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) court were underway.
Shah directed the SBCA director general to take strict action against officers involved in approving illegal building plans. Meanwhile, the Karachi Commissioner informed the minister that residents of those buildings declared ‘dangerous’ had received notices for immediate evacuation.
Moreover, the information minister suggested that there should be a vigilance committee formed in each district for identifying illegal and dangerous constructions. These committees should have representatives from the DMC, the KDA, the SBCA, and the police department, he added. He instructed the SBCA officials to update the list of the illegal buildings in the city and take action against the encroachers.
