Islamabad: Supreme Court orders railway minister Sheikh Rasheed to run Karachi Circular Railway in two weeks.
 
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, heard the railway deficit case. Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed appeared in court.
 
The Karachi Circular Railway was also mentioned during the Supreme Court. The Chief Justice told Sheikh Rasheed that the railway was going away, look at the Kala Pull in Karachi, go to the Kimari area. What is the situation? Yes, people listen to you, but your department is the most ineligible.
The Supreme Court ordered the railway to run the circular railway in two weeks and adjourned the hearing till February 12.
The court directed that steps should be taken for the rehabilitation of the victims on the circular railway track while the Minister for Planning and Secretary was present at the next hearing.

On the other hand Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar has directed the Planning Division and the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) to immediately initiate work for finalizing the implementation mechanism of the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project with the Chinese side.

Chairing a meeting to discuss the KCR project on Wednesday, the minister reiterated that the federal government was fully committed to support the KCR project for its expeditious implementation in consultation with the China.

He highlighted that the project would provide safe, efficient and reliable public transport for the citizens of Karachi. The meeting also discussed the issues hampering implementation of KCR project as indicated by the government of Sindh.

The minister was given a detailed briefing on the project and was informed that PC-I of KCR project was approved in October 2017 by the Executive Committee of National Economic Council.
