Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) recently notified the initiation of the land acquisition process for the development of the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project. In this regard, the district administration also issued a Section 4 notification — allowing the government to acquire land from individuals as per the rates decided previously.
RDA Chairman Tariq Murtaza stated that the authority would use the acquired land along RRR for building the following:
- Satellite town
- A housing project as part of the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP)
- A modern medical city
- Vegetable & fruit markets
- Economic zone
Chairman Murtaza explained that the decision to develop the NPHP project along the RRR route had been made due to the unavailability of suitable land within the city. He added that this housing scheme would include basic facilities such as schools, markets, parks, etc. for the residents.
The RDA chairman highlighted that the RRR project would resolve traffic congestion issues in the city, encourage economic activities, and reduce noise and environmental pollution faced by people residing along the GT Road.
According to the details available, the RDA expects to complete the RRR project by 2023. However, Chairman Murtaza revealed that the authority was still deliberating on the financial model to use for the project’s completion.
