Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Monday constituted the National Coordination Committee on Housing, Construction and Development for the promotion of the construction industry. The committee will work to provide affordable housing to the low-income segments of the society under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP).
The committee’s convenor will be the Naya Pakistan Housing and Development Authority (NAPHDA) Chairman, while members the federal secretaries or their representatives from the following ministries will also be part of the group: Housing & Works, Planning, Development & Special Initiative, Finance, Power, Petroleum, and Law Division.
The members will further include the State Bank of Pakistan Deputy Governor, Chief Secretaries of the four provinces (including Azad Jammu Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan), Federal Board of Revenue Chairman or his representative, Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman, Islamabad Chief Commissioner and NAPHDA’s Deputy Chairman.
In addition, the committee will have the power to add any person to its list of members for various purposes. It will also be provided the secretariat support by the NAPHDA.
The committee is to meet twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, but the convenor may increase the frequency as needed.
The committee will work to assess the demand and supply of housing (especially affordable housing). It will also review the progress of housing and construction related schemes around the country. Moreover, it will have the power to redress issues related to permissions, NOCs and utilities for such projects
