Karachi: Local Government Secretary Najam Ahmad Shah recently revealed that the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) had been directed to survey dilapidated buildings in Karachi and submit a report to the Local Government Department in 48 hour and the deadline will be over today.
Mr. Shah made these comments while addressing a high-level meeting at SBCA’s office. On the occasion, he stated that compromises with human lives would not be acceptable, and that all the officials concerned working under the SBCA would have to submit complete details on dilapidated buildings in the city and other surrounding areas that fall under the authority’s jurisdiction.
Secretary Shah went on to say that all officers and departments of the SBCA should be focused on improving performance, ensuring transparency, and timely project completions. In addition, he said that the patrons, owners and facilitators of these unlawful structures that rob people of their lives should be immediately stopped.
He further recommended that the department should launch mobile apps and use other digital channels to facilitate the city’s residents. Moreover, he said that a display board with the relevant construction no-objection certificate (NOC) and a QR code should be placed before under-construction buildings so as to ‘root-out’ the trend of illegal constructions and additions to buildings.
