KARACHI: Goods transporters have increased fares by 14 percent after the government after recent hike in petroleum prices.
Imdad Naqvi, a spokesman for goods transport union, said the government which has dropped its plan to increase the diesel price last month has now raised it by Rs6.
He said following the hike in POL prices, the new fares would be applicable with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has demanded government reverse its decision to increase POL prices.
He termed the latest increase as economic murder of the masses.
The PPP chairman also vowed to resist what he said the government ‘s “onslaught” at every forum.
The finance ministry on Tuesday issued a notification of hike in petroleum prices.
The ministry raised the price of diesel by Rs5.92 and light diesel by Rs5.93 per liter.
