Karachi: The Sindh government revealed that it had partnered up with the Frontier Works Organizaation (FWO) for the construction of 10 flyovers and underpasses on the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) track.
The announcement was made in a meeting held to review the development progress at the project site. Sindh Transport Minister Awais Qadir Shah presided over the session; where the attendees agreed to increase the development work pace to replace the old structures – remarking that they had become ‘dangerous and obsolete’.
As per the statement issued by the Sindh Transport Ministry, the intended project-sites for the development of 10 flyovers and underpasses on the route of the local train service have been marked. In addition, development funds worth PKR 5 billion have also been set aside for the construction of these facilities.
The rehabilitation work of the KCR project is being directly monitored by the Supreme Court, which had earlier directed the provincial authorities – last month – to expedite work on the development of related infrastructure in order to make the KCR track operational (and to take the traffic load off the roads).
